Decoys and Sporting Art Auction

November 6 & 7, 2019 - Easton, Maryland

Easton, Maryland - Guyette & Deeter, Inc. conducted their annual Fall decoy and sporting art auction November 6 & 7 at the Talbot County Community Center in Easton, Maryland. The sale was held in conjunction with the Easton Waterfowl Festival and was accompanied by a 50 table dealer show. The sale grossed over $1.5 million with 27 lots selling for over $10,000. An Elmer Crowell oil on canvas sold for a world record $30,000. Rare examples from the Ward Brothers, as well as decoys from New England, did well in the sale. Highlights include a humpback style pintail drake by the Ward Brothers for $72,000, a pair of mergansers by Elmer Crowell for $34,800, and a very early goldeneye hen, circa 1920s, by the Ward Brothers for $24,000. Paintings and folk art were also popular on the block with a 68” long swordfish weathervane selling for $42,000, a large landscape painting with two grouse by Edmond Osthaus at $18,000 and a large painting of canvasbacks on the Chesapeake by George Browne for $22,200.
